Easter at Exploris 24th March 2009
Looking for the perfect venue for an exciting day out this Easter? Then why not visit Exploris, Northern Ireland's only public aquarium and seal sanctuary.
Located in Portaferry on the shores of Strangford Lough, the aquarium's displays lead you from the rich tidal waters of the Lough and out to the underwater world of the open sea. Visitors come face to face with hundreds of native fish and invertebrates, normally only seen by divers who brave the chilly waters of the Irish Sea.
'Children' of all ages love the hands on fun to be had at the discovery pools where experienced guides give regular talks throughout the day. Here you can stroke a ray and feel the prickles of the sea urchin. At the Open Sea Tank, visitors can gaze into deep waters where sharks circle and rays sweep majestically past, or, on certain days watch divers doing a little light 'housework'.
One of the most popular aspects of a visit to the aquarium is the Seal Rescue Centre where sick or orphaned seal pups are cared for until they can be returned to the wild. The nature of the seal rescue work means there will be times when there are no seals 'in residence'. If you are interested in viewing the seals, please call ahead for more information.
There's fun for all the family this Easter with face painting, children's art activities, balloon modeling & inflatable obstacle course (latter weather dependant), not to mention our Great Egg Case Hunt.
