Regular visitors may have noticed that the wrecked boat in the Open Sea Tank has finally rotted away. The wreck is home to our Conger eels and Wolffish. To create a more suitable environment we are searching for a suitable disused boat - not too big, that we can sink in the tank and make a new wreck. If you know of such a boat that we could use please contact us on 028 42728062.

The planned (and televised) release of our three largest Conger Eels went incredibly smoothly and to everyones amazement was completed by lunchtime today. All three eels were weighed prior to release, the three weights being 70lbs, 104lbs and a whopping 130lbs. The largest eel was a good eight feet in length. Incidently the Irish record for a line caught conger currently stands at 72lbs.
The whole operation was filmed by the BBC with Darryl Grimason presenting (and participating) as part of their 'Wild Week Live' event which will be broadcast on TV and radio from the 21st May, it is expected that the footage from the Conger release will be broadcast on the evening of the 27th. more... "Call of the Wild" as Congers star in their own release! 6th May 2011
This weekend is the last chance to see our three largest conger eels before they are released back to the wild. The three Congers that live in the Open Sea Tank have become restless recently as they come into breeding condition. As Congers apparently only breed once before dying we plan to release the three on Monday 9th May to give them the opportuinity to breed. This rare event will be filmed by the BBC as part of its "Wild Week Live" event which runs from May 21st.
